The list does not cover the whole range of services.</h5><h4><strong>Measuring the quality of air as specified by Act No. 201/2012 Coll., Air Protection Act</strong></h4><p>We measure the concentrations of the following pollutants in the atmosphere, as listed in Act No. 201/2012 Coll., authorized by the Ministry of the Environment: nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, tropospheric ozone, benzene, solid particles PM10 and PM2.5, arsen, cadmium, nickel, lead and benzo[a]pyrene. Measuring other pollutants may be added.</p><p>We can use air quality measuring principles in other locations, for example in city parks. Air quality information may help you to plan, develop and maintain these important green spaces in cities.</p><h4><strong>Assessment of environmental contamination</strong></h4><p>We offer complex evaluation of environmental contamination at a specifical location, as well as individual elements of the environment. We use our own laboratories, equipped with top instruments, for taking environmental samples and their processing and preparation for chemical and toxicological analyses. Our lab then provides the resulting qualitative and quantitative determination from a wide range of organic and inorganic substances, including their trace and ultra-trace concentrations.</p><ul><li>Evaluation of <strong>air contamination</strong></li><li>Assessment of <strong>soil contamination</strong></li><li>Assessment of <strong>building materials, secondary materials and waste</strong></li><li>Assessment of <strong>water contamination</strong></li></ul><h4><strong>Measuring the emissions of vehicles in real traffic</strong></h4><p>Measuring the emissions of vehicles in real traffic contains: the continuous measuring of concentrations of gaseous emissions of O<sub>2</sub>, CO, CO<sub>2</sub>, HC and NO<sub>x</sub>, isokinetic sampling of solid particles, isokinetic sampling of gases, including unlimited pollutants, placed into containers for previously non-specified detailed laboratory analysis of gas emissions, sampling for two different driving regimes, measuring the flow of exhaust gases, measuring the pressure and temperature of exhaust gases. Everything is done using a devicce developed by the Transport Research Centre and the company SEKO spol. s r.o.</p><h4><strong>The issues of fuels and lubricants</strong></h4><ul><li>Specification of the interpretation of emission measuring results,</li><li>Substantiation of the anomalies in emission characteristics of vehicles,</li><li>Influence on the emission factors of vehicles,</li><li>Specification of inputs for emissions modelling (AP development scenario),</li><li>The impact of alternative fuels on the degradation of motor oil,</li><li>Analysis of the technical condition of vehicles based on motor oil.</li></ul><h4><strong>Traffic-caused emissions balance calculations</strong></h4><p>Our services involve balancing emissions of mobile sources from road traffic (including emissions of solid pollutants from abrasions and VOC emissions from evaporation from the fuel systems of petrol vehicles), railway, air and water traffic, as well as emissions from off-road sources (agricultural, forrest and construction vehicles, military vehicles, plant care etc.).</p><h4><strong>Modelling traffic emissions and the contribution of traffic to imission concentrations</strong></h4><p>The offer involves modelling the flow of emissions from traffic at a specific location and the creation of dispersion studies (modelling the contribution of traffic to the imission concentrations). The input for these modellings is a multi-modal traffic figure. If the client does not have a traffic model available, its creation may be a part of the offer.</p><h4><strong>Modelling the traffic imission concentrations (dispersion study)</strong></h4><p>We conduct the calculation of imission concentrations for both gaseous and solid pollutants from traffic in accordance with the SYMOS'97 directive. Primarily, when substances are evaluated, the limits of which are given by the Air Protection Act No. 201/2012 Coll. The Transport Research Centre (CDV) is a public research institution, established according to Act 341/2005, Coll., as the only research organisation under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport.

<h3><strong>ACESSS = Academic Center of Excellence in Separation Science and Sensing</strong></h3><p>The University of Liège is home to leading research groups in<strong> Separation Science</strong> and <strong>Gas Sensing</strong>. She obtained her PhD from University of Technology Sydney in Australia and performed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Liège in Belgium. She also worked as a faculty member at Chaminade University of Honolulu in the Forensic Sciences/Chemistry program from 2017-2023 prior to coming to W&amp;M in August 2023. Her research group is comprised of Undergraduate and Masters research students in the area of analytical chemistry. Her research focuses on using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) to uncover volatiles as mediator chemicals in processes associated with life, health, disease, and death. This research highlights the use of GC×GC in a wide range of fields has been recognized by a number of major awards including the ACS Satinder Ahuja Award for Young Investigators in Separation Science, the John B. Phillips Award, the Henry Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award, and most recently being named for the second time to The Analytical Scientist’s Top 40 Under 40 Power List in 2022. She graduated with honors from Western Illinois University, earning a Bachelor of Science in forensic chemistry with minors in applied mathematics and environmental studies. To continue her research in environmental chemistry, she will use two-dimensional gas chromatography for volatile organic compound profiling of macroalgae co-cultured with clams and for studying canine scent detection of American foulbrood disease in honey bee larvae. Outside of the lab, Breanna enjoys exploring the outdoors with friends, dancing, watching movies, and spending time with family.</p><h5><strong>Abby Jones</strong></h5><p>Abby Jones is a member of the class of ‘27 and intends to major in both chemistry and biology. She has always wanted a career in forensic science and hopes to apply both her degrees and her work in this lab to future forensic jobs. Abby will be working on research involving GC×GC-TOFMS in forensic science fields. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and aspires to visit all 63 national parks as well as hike the whole Appalachian trail.</p><h5><strong>Sarah Foster</strong></h5><p>Sarah Foster began studying at William and Mary in the Fall of 2023 and is a Chemistry major. In this research laboratory, Sarah assists in running experiments related to comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography for nontargeted applications of fermented beverages such as kombucha. In her free time, Sarah enjoys listening to music, volunteering with various on-campus organizations, and watching movies and TV with her friends.</p><h5><strong>Kira Fisher</strong></h5><p>Kira started studying at William &amp; Mary in the Fall of 2022 and will be graduating in 2026. She is a Chemistry major planning to work in research. Her project will focus on finding a more sustainable and efficient carrier gas in two-dimensional gas chromatography, hoping to further the use of two-dimensional gas chromatography in forensics and other laboratories. When she is not researching and studying, Kira enjoys playing soccer, watching movies, and spending time with her family.</p><h5><strong>Grace Saunders</strong></h5><p>Grace Saunders is a student in the class of 2026 and is majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Mathematics. She is working on the development of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) for use in the chemical analysis of gunshot residues. Her research goal is to devise a methodology so that GC×GC may be used to strengthen the credibility of gunshot residue as evidence in a forensic investigation. In her free time, she enjoys getting outdoors (especially going hiking!), baking, spending time with her friends and going to events with her social sorority, Tri Delta, and reading whatever she can get her hands on.</p><h5><strong>Virginia Weina</strong></h5><p>Virginia Weina is currently a first-year William and Mary student en route to graduate in 2027. While outside the lab, Virginia participates in many forms of physical activity, such as gymnastics, dance cardio, softball, and weight lifting.</p><h5><strong>Jackson Webb</strong></h5><p>Jackson Webb is a student in the class of 2028 at the College of William &amp; Mary. He intends to major in either chemistry or biology. Jackson will take part in research that will involve comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography, and hopes to use this experience to pursue a job in the forensic science field. &nbsp;When not in the lab, Jackson enjoys exploring the outdoors with his friends and reading books by Brandon Sanderson.</p><h5><strong>Madi O’Brien&nbsp;</strong></h5><p>Madi O’Brien is a student in the class of 2027 and is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Kinesiology. Her research is focused on using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC) to understand the presence of ignitable liquid residue in fire debris; as well as using software for data analysis and problem solving. <p><strong>Watrex  Praha  is  a  leading  Czech  inventor,  manufacturer,  and distributor  of  liquid  chromatography (HPLC)  instruments  and  systems. The  company was  established  in  1990  by  Dr.  Milan  Minarik,  who is regarded as one of the founding fathers of GPC and HPLC in the former Czechoslovakia. In the early years Watrex acted as a general  distributor  in  Czech  Republic  and  Slovakia  for  Waters, division of Millipore and, later, for Hewlett-Packard. In 1992 Watrex has assumed a distributorship for LDC Analytical company (acquired  by  Thermo  Separation  Products  (TSP)).  At  the  same time,  Watrex  has  also  served  as  an  exclusive  distributor  for  a number  of  manufacturers  of  chromatography  consumables  and column technology.</strong></p>
<p><strong>A strong chromatography background</strong> of  Watrex  has  been  built  on  a  team  of  HPLC  specialists  with expertise  in  method  development  and  service  for  a  wide  range  of  HPLC  instruments.  During  the  1990s  and  2000s  Watrex  has transformed  from  <strong>sole  distribution</strong>  to  <strong>manufacturing</strong>  resulting  in  a  range  of  own  chromatography  products  such  as  the <strong>DeltaChrom™ LC Pumps</strong>  and <strong>detectors</strong>, <strong>automated  SPE solutions</strong>, <strong>solvent savers</strong> etc.  The  instrument  manufacturing  was complemented  by  a  signature  **Polymer  IEX™  ion exclusion chromatography and <strong>DeltaSil™ C18 phase columns</strong> and packings. </p>
<p>Since 2015, ownership of the Watrex company has gradually transitioned from father to son. Dr. Marek Minarik, who received his Ph.D. in Bioanalytical chemistry in Boston working with Barry L. Karger - one of the most notable figures in chromatography, assumed the position of a General  manager.  During  the  subsequent  years  Watrex  has  introduced  a redesigned line of chromatography instrumentation to further serve analytical chemist’s needs for top quality products at reasonable cost. The new instruments sold under a <strong>Streamline™</strong> trademark cover a full range of traditional  HPLC  components  from  robust  <strong>double  piston  solvent  delivery systems</strong>  (in  isocratic  and  binary  gradient  formats),  <strong>detectors</strong>  (including   variable wavelength, photodiode array, refractive-index and conductivity), <strong>column thermostats</strong> and <strong>fraction colectors</strong>, combined  with  <strong>OEM  autosamplers</strong>.  The  product  range  is  further  emphasiced  with  dedicated  systems  for  <strong>ion  chromatography</strong> (with  conductivity  suppresion)  and  <strong>gel-permeation  chromatography</strong>  with  viscosimetric  detection.  All  Streamline™  components are made of parts manufactured in either USA or EU. </p>
<p>The development of new products at Watrex relies upon multiple scientific  collaborations  with  leading  academic  centers.  Over  the past  10  years  Watrex  has  taken  part  in  over  a  dozen  of  research projects supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic or the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. <strong>In 2020 Watrex was awarded an EU patent no. 3396372</strong> covering a method for improvement of HPLC resolution by zero-dead volume recycle chromatography. The technology is used in REPETTO™ system, which was awarded a price for analytical instrumentation at the LABOREXPO 2017 exhibition.</p>
