A Rich History of Innovation

Organomation was founded in 1959 by the late Dr. Neal McNiven, who foresaw the need for sample preparation instruments required for chromatography. He developed the first multiple sample, high-speed nitrogen evaporator, the forerunner of many similar devices.

Originally named the Meyer N-EVAP Analytical Evaporator, it was popular from the very beginning and found acceptance in a variety of analytical laboratories. It held up to twelve test tubes of various diameters simultaneously with a unique front-loading feature. In the beginning the evaporator was sold directly from a small manufacturing area in Shrewsbury and later Worcester, Massachusetts.

In 1970 a second model was introduced, the twenty-four position N-EVAP. With updates in design, features and materials it is still one of the most popular products offered. Frequently, we see examples of both of these early models still in use today.

As the demand increased, it necessitated a larger facility. In 1980, Organomation constructed its current headquarters and manufacturing plant in Berlin, Massachusetts. The emphasis at the time was on research and development to expand the product line. The MULTIVAP batch nitrogen evaporators and S-EVAP boiling solvent evaporators were introduced during this time.

The Storied History Continues Today 

The MICROVAP product line was introduced in 2000 and it was originally designed for microplates. In 2004 Organomation released the MICROVAP with an option for test tubes.

Organomation introduced the NITRO-GEN nitrogen generator in 2011 and it was redesigned in 2019 to be a portable, lightweight and low-cost option to pair with laboratory evaporators. It converts compressed air to a stream of 95-99% pure nitrogen gas.

Evaporation was not the only need in sample preparation. Feedback from laboratory researchers indicated strong demand for extracting an increasing number of samples. The ROT-X-TRACTs for solid and liquid samples were developed to meet this demand. We now offer over 20 different bench-top instruments for both evaporation and extraction.

Associated glassware and accessories fill out our complete solutions. The newest instruments incorporate automation to make sample processing faster and easier.

Our sales network of representatives and distributors in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia gives Organomation a worldwide presence. We pursue additional markets in the Middle East, South America and Africa.
