Separation Science, in collaboration with the life science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany offers an upcoming webinar that provides an alternative approach for the extraction of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) for gas chromatography analysis.

Attend this educational event to ...

  • Learn faster and more efficient sample preparation methods for the analysis of non-polar contaminants in food samples including oils, butter, milk, hamburgers, salmon, avocado, and olives

  • Broaden your knowledge of recent advances in sample preparation techniques

  • Understand how to use dispersive SPE and traditional SPE cartridges for preparation of fatty matrices for the analysis of persistent organic pollutants.

Overview

Sample preparation for extraction of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) for gas chromatography analysis can be challenging, especially in samples with high fat content. Extraction methods targeting non-polar compounds such as pesticides, PCBs, and PAHs tend to generate extracts that are highly contaminated with fatty matrix, causing several problems with the subsequent chromatographic analysis. Traditional clean-up techniques, such as gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and normal phase column chromatography can be very effective but are often expensive and time consuming.

In this webinar, we will present an alternative approach to the clean-up of matrices with significant fat content using a family of sorbents that effectively retain fatty components. Examples will include analysis of pesticides using QuEChERS methodology and the use of unique solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges for analysis of PCBs and PAHs in fatty foods.

Who should attend

Analytical chemists, laboratory managers, academic researchers, and anyone interested in food analysis.

Presenter: Deyny Mendivelso-Pérez (Senior R&D Scientist in the life science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany)

Dr. Deyny Mendivelso-Pérez received her PhD in analytical chemistry from Iowa State University in 2020. After receiving her PhD, Deyny joined the life science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany as a senior R&D scientist at the Bellefonte, PA, USA site in the area of sample preparation for chromatographic separations primarily focusing on solid phase microextraction, GC and GC/MS applications.
