Recent concerns with the price and availability of helium has lead laboratories to look for alternative carrier gases for their gas chromatography (GC) and GC/mass spectrometry (MS) systems. We begin with what can be done to conserve carrier gas and then explore alternate gases. With resources available today, we can quickly implement changes to save costs and speed up our analysis time.

1. Carrier Gas and Column Selection for Quicker GC Analysis

Presenter: Eric M. Pavlich (GC Applications Scientist)

Eric is a GC Application Scientist for the Chemistries and Supplies Division at Agilent Technologies. Eric supports customers in GC column selection, method development and troubleshooting in any GC or GC-MS application.

2. Conversion of GC/MS Systems From Helium To Hydrogen Carrier Gas

Presenter: Bruce D. Quimby, Ph.D. (Sr. GC/MS Applications Scientist)

Bruce is a Senior GC/MS Applications Scientist in the Mass Spectrometry Division at Agilent Technologies. He is currently working on GC/MS applications in multiple areas including environmental and food safety.
