Agenda
- Solid phase microextraction gas chromatography-high resolution Orbitrap-mass spectrometry for the detection of ergot alkaloid in soft wheat. Professor Federica Bianchi, University of Parma, Italy.
- Uncovering tricky food matrices: Untargeted metabolomics-based authentication using GC-Orbitrap technology. Araceli Rivera-Perez, University of Almeria, Spain
- Non-targeted analysis of whisky using SPME Arrow and Orbitrap Exploris GC 240 mass spectrometer. Dominic Roberts, Thermo Fisher Scientific, UK
Presenter: Dr. Federica Bianchi (Professor, University of Parma)
Federica Bianchi is a full professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Dept. of Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Parma, Italy. Since 2014, she has been director of the postgraduate university course “Quality Control and Quality Management Systems in Testing Labs”. Her main research topics include the development and validation of analytical and bioanalytical methods based on hyphenated techniques in environmental and food analysis and innovation of materials for sample treatment devices and mass spectrometry instrumentation. Her expertise in chemometrics has been widely exploited for data elaboration.
Presenter: Dr. Araceli Rivera-Perez (Postdoc - Researcher, University of Almeria, Spain)
Dr. Araceli Rivera-Pérez is a postdoctoral researcher and university teacher at the University of Almería (UAL), where she is part of the 'Analytical Chemistry of Contaminants' research group. With a Ph.D. in Chemistry, she has spent six years working with GC Orbitrap technology, focusing on applications such as metabolomics, natural compounds, food authentication, and fingerprint analysis. Her passion for analytical chemistry was sparked by her upbringing in the agriculturally rich Mediterranean environment, leading her to explore food quality and safety. Dr. Rivera-Pérez's research has made significant contributions to ensuring the integrity and authenticity of foodstuffs using advanced analytical methods.
Presenter: Dominic Roberts (Product Marketing Manager GC-MS, Thermo Fisher Scientific)
Dominic Roberts has been integral to the GC Orbitrap MS since its launch in 2015, starting as a Senior Applications Specialist and now serving as Product Marketing Manager for Orbitrap Exploris GC Series. With over 25 years of experience in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry, Dominic has applied cutting-edge GC–MS and LC–MS systems to analyze chemicals in food, biological, and environmental samples.
