SeparationScience: Green Chemistry in Forensic and Clinical Toxicology: HF-LPME in Action

Focusing on sustainability, this presentation highlights how hollow fibre-based liquid phase microextraction  (HF-LPME) aligns with green chemistry principles. The presentation will explore how HF-LPME reduces organic solvent use, supports miniaturization, and simplifies workflows without compromising analytical sensitivity. Real-world examples of HF-LPME applications, including the detection of novel psychoactive substances (NPS) and other compounds, will be used to illustrate practical benefits.

By attending this webinar, you will:
  • Understand how HF-LPME supports the principles of green chemistry
  • Identify the ways in which HF-LPME reduces the use of organic solvents, contributing to more sustainable laboratory practices
  • Examine real-world applications of HF-LPME, particularly in the detection of NPS and other analytes
  • Appreciate the practical benefits of HF-LPME in various analytical chemistry contexts

Presenter: Rafael Henry-Venson (Senior Lecturer, Forensic, Toxicology/Pharmacology, University of Glasgow)

Dr Rafael Henry-Venson is a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Toxicology/Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow, with a background in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmacy and a PhD in Forensic Medicine and Science. His research focuses on microextraction analytical techniques for toxicology, including the use of hollow-fibre liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME). With years of experience in both academic and forensic settings, Dr Henry-Venson has worked on a wide range of forensic toxicology cases. Currently, he focuses on forensic toxicology and pharmacology education.
