Metrohm: Practical Raman Applications: From Polymers to Process Control

Raman spectroscopy delivers powerful chemical insights about reaction dynamics, blending processes, and material characterization, yet remains underutilized in many industrial settings. While complementing traditional FTIR techniques used in laboratories worldwide, modern Raman systems provide comparable qualitative and quantitative chemical information with significantly improved ease of use. Today's Raman instruments feature streamlined startup procedures, intuitive data interpretation, and superior capabilities for production integration and in situ measurements.

In this webinar, Dr. Adam J. Hopkins of Metrohm USA will demonstrate how Raman spectroscopy offers practical solutions for both quantitative and qualitative applications in routine analysis environments. The presentation will explore real-world case studies including polymer functionalization monitoring, carbon material characterization, and rapid chemical quantification systems that don't require microscopy. These examples illustrate how Raman technology has transformed from complex, expensive instrumentation into accessible, compact, and cost-effective tools suitable for everyday analytical needs.

Who should attend?
  • Quality control or assurance mangers/directors
  • Process Development Scientists/Engineers
  • Industrial and Academic Research chemists
  • Anyone interested in learning about Raman spectroscopy
Key learning points
  • Understand how Raman spectroscopy directly reveals molecular structure information at the point of need, providing immediate chemical insights without complex sample preparation
  • Discover how Raman spectroscopy bridges the gap between laboratory development and production implementation with probe-based solutions that provide identical chemical information across environments.
  • See how modern Raman technology makes powerful chemical analysis accessible to researchers, engineers, and quality technicians alike
  • Understand the critical factors for selecting appropriate Raman instrumentation based on your specific application needs

Speaker: Dr. Adam J. Hopkins (Spectroscopy Product Manager, Metrohm USA)

Dr. Adam J. Hopkins is the Spectroscopy Product Manager for handheld and laboratory instruments at Metrohm USA since 2016. He has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Oregon where he studied nonlinear optical spectroscopy under Geraldine Richmond. Between graduate school and Metrohm, Adam worked developing spectroscopic solutions for standoff and noncontact sensing applications using LIBS, Raman, and other novel techniques. Dr. Hopkins is a member of the American Chemical Society, Society for Applied Spectroscopy, Coblentz Society, and SPIE. He is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed papers and proceedings and three patents.
