Fumigant Residues in Food: Addressing the Growing Problem

Fumigants like ethylene oxide (EtO) and phosphine are widely used for sterilization and pest control in food processing and storage. However, their residues in food have led to multiple product recalls across the South Asia-Pacific region, raising concerns about food safety, exports, and compliance. Regulatory bodies now demand reliable and traceable testing methods. GC/MS is the preferred technique due to its ability to detect low-level residues with accuracy. In this webinar, experts will discuss why fumigants testing matters, how it is done, and what labs can do to stay ready. Register now.
Why you should attend:
- Understand the regulatory situation with respect to fumigants' concern in foods, in the South-Asia Pacific region, and the risks of missing compliance
- Learn how GC/MS methods are used for EtO and Phosphine analysis in different food matrices
- Hear from experts on configuring and applying the workflow in real lab settings
Who should attend:
- Food safety labs, food scientists and analysts, quality teams, regulatory specialists, and anyone working in food testing across South Asia-Pacific region for food product manufacturers, exporters or contract testing.
Presenter: Dr. Paresh Shah (Chairman, FSSAI Scientific Panel on Pesticide Residues, India)
Dr. Paresh Shah brings over 36 years of experience in the field of pesticide residue analysis, having served at the All-India Network Project on Pesticide Residues (AINP-PR), ICAR-Unit, Anand Agricultural University, Gujarat. He retired as Head of the Laboratory in 2021, having led over 300 research and regulatory projects for government bodies and industry.
Currently, Dr. Shah serves as the Chairman of the FSSAI Scientific Panel on Pesticide Residues, guiding national food safety policies and standards.
