Thermo Fisher Scientific: Detecting volatile PFAS in water with high-resolution GC-MS

Fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs) are key precursors to perfluorinated acids, and detecting them at low concentrations in complex aqueous matrices is challenging. Traditional LCMS methods lack the required sensitivity, and there has been an increasing demand for detecting 6:2 FTOH and 8:2 FTOH in aqueous matrices.

Join Principal scientist John Quick, ALS Environmental Ltd, for a webinar on using Gas Chromatography High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (GC-HRMS) to analyze FTOHs and other volatile PFAS. John will demonstrate how Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME arrow) with GC-HRMS achieves low reporting limits (sub ng/L) with high sample throughput and minimal sample preparation.

Join this webinar to discover:

  • A robust, sensitive solution for detecting FTOHs and other volatile PFAS.
  • The potential for non-targeted screening with GC-HRMS.

Who should attend:

  • Laboratory professionals and scientists in water quality/contaminant monitoring.
  • Regulatory professionals focused on water standards.
  • Analytical chemists specializing in PFAS detection and analysis.

This session is a recording from the Thermo Fisher Scientific 2024 event "Live from the Lab".

Presenter: John Quick (Principal Scientist, ALS Environmental Ltd)

John is the principal scientist at ALS Environmental in Coventry. John’s background is in chromatography and over the last years John and his team has developed methods to analyse all the compounds included in the CIP program (A UK version of the Water Framework Directive) with detection levels not seen by any other commercial laboratory in the past.
