Agilent Technologies: Watertight Analytical Workflows to Meet EU Directive 2020-2184

European Union Directive 2020/2184 pertains to the assessment of water quality intended for human consumption and requires low level, accurate quantitative analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) to ensure that it is safe for drinking and cooking purposes.

We present a comprehensive methodology for the detection and quantification of VOCs including epichlorohydrin in water samples.  Utilizing gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS), we achieved high sensitivity and specificity for the  determination of these target compounds.  The method verification includes assessments of linearity, accuracy, precision, and detection limits, all of which met or exceeded the regulatory requirements and that the analytical techniques used are robust and reliable for routine monitoring and regulatory compliance.

This research underscores the importance of continuous monitoring and adherence to the 2020/2184 directive to mitigate the adverse effects of VOCs and epichlorohydrin in water for human consumption.

Presenter:  Rich Davis (Pre-Sales Application Engineer, Agilent Technologies)

Rich has worked for Agilent as a GC/MS Application Specialist for over a year, before this he worked in the forensic industry developing new methodologies for both LC/MS and GC/MS applications. Subsequently Rich has worked for an Agilent VAR developing automated methodologies in multi-sector industries particularly environmental as well as being a GC, GC/MS and GC/QTOF engineer for around 6 years.
