This webinar aims to provide a thorough understanding of the methodologies, technologies, and regulatory frameworks essential for effective air monitoring, ensuring you stay at the forefront of environmental air quality testing.

The session will cover key aspects such as air monitoring definitions, types, and technologies, with a detailed overview of established methodologies including US EPA TO-15, TO-17, ISO 16017, NIOSH 2549, ASTM D6196, and BIS methods. Additionally, the webinar will delve into the regulatory landscape across India, South-Asia Pacific and ANZ regions, highlighting current trends and future directives.

Attendees will gain insights into air monitoring testing requirements for ambient air, indoor, and outdoor environments, and discover how Agilent’s advanced GC/MS solutions, along with Markes International’s thermal desorption systems, can enhance their air quality monitoring capabilities.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Comprehensive understanding of various air monitoring methodologies
  • Learn briefly about the research work of experts on atmospheric chemistry and trace gases, VOC analysis, and dioxin-like PCBs' analysis in ambient air, etc.
  • Awareness of current regulatory trends and future directives in air quality monitoring
  • Practical insights into Agilent’s and Markes International’s solutions for air monitoring, including application workflows and thermal desorption techniques

This webinar is designed for:

  • Environmental scientists, chemists, QA/QC analysts, and R&D personnel
  • Lab managers, Lab technicians, researchers, and research associates
  • CEOs and technical personnel from environmental companies, research labs, government authorities, and academia

Presenter: Lokesh Kumar Sahu, Ph.D. (Professor, Space and Atmospheric Sciences Division, Physical Research Laboratory (PRL))

Prof. Lokesh Sahu is a faculty in the Space and Atmospheric Sciences Division, Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, India. After completing his PhD in 2005, he was a Research Associate in the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune during May-October 2006. He was awarded the prestigious Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship to work in the University of Tokyo during October 2006-October 2008. Later, he was a Special Researcher in the University of Tokyo during November 2008-July 2010. In the year 2010, he joined PRL as a Faculty. Dr. Lokesh is credited for his initiative and significant contributions to study volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which is an important precursor of ozone over India and surrounding marine regions. He has been working in the atmospheric processes and distributions of trace gases such as ozone and VOCs in the topical troposphere using ground-based, ship-borne and aircraft observations. Dr. Sahu has published about 120 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has been involved in several research projects of NASA, Japan Science Technology (JST), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Asia Pacific Network (APN), etc. He has received the Certificate of Appreciation from the President of the JSPS, Government of Japan, 2007. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Group Achievement Award in 2009 for outstanding accomplishments in the successful Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellite mission in Alaska and Canada. He also served as an executive member of the Indian Science Association in Japan (ISAJ).

Presenter: Prathish K.P., Ph.D. (Principal Scientist, Dioxin Research Laboratory, Environmental Technology Division, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science & Technology (CSIR-NIIST))

Dr. K. P. Prathish joined at the Environmental Technology Division, CSIR-NIIST in 2014 after completing his postdoctoral studies at University of Coimbra, Portugal. Since then, he played a pivotal role in revamping the state of the art unique dioxin research and monitoring facility at CSIR-NIIST. NIIST has carried out the first study report on the emission factor of dioxins & PCBs from open burning of MSW in India under his leadership. The development of an affordable GC-MS/MS based confirmatory method for dioxins and POPs in environmental, food and feed samples was a significant achievement, which has fetched him the AOAC India section: Young Scientist Award in 2020. His team conducted several societally relevant studies on the source and fate of POPs in environment and its pathways to human food chain in dumpyard fire breakout sites, industrial hot spot regions, biomedical waste treatment plants and mineral processing industries. Current major projects on establishing the MoFPI funded PMKSY - Food Testing Laboratory and UNEP funded Review & update on National Implementation Plan for POPs has brought lot of reputation & outreach to the institute. The facility is providing NABL accredited analytical services for dioxins & PCBs to various organizations such as BARC, NEERI, MPEDA, CIFT, KSPCB, fish and fish product exporters etc. The facility has been recommended by MoEF & CC for dioxin analysis for environmental clearances and has recently obtained FSSAI- National Reference Laboratory (NRL) status. In addition, he has published more than 30 peer reviewed articles and an US patent was granted to his credit.

Presenter: Praveen Arya (Application Engineer - GC/MS, Agilent Technologies)

Praveen Arya, Application Engineer at Agilent technologies, has a commitment and appreciation for Gas-phase residue applications. In 2005, Mr. Praveen Arya completed his M.Sc. in Food Technology . After post-graduation, he served as a Senior Analyst at SGS, Gurgaon- a commercial testing laboratory for 6 years and developed expertise in Residue analysis using sophisticated chromatographic instruments such as LCMS and GCMS. After that, in 2011, He joined Agilent Technologies as an Application Engineer where he supported country-wide GCMS customers for resolving application issues and method development. He has more than 18 years of experience in residue analysis in food and environmental samples using various high end chromatographic and spectrometric techniques (GC, GCMS, GCMS/MS, TDS, Headspace, Purge & trap etc.). His area of specialization includes new analytical method development and validation as per national and international guidelines.
