Agilent: What Problems can be solved with a more advanced GC/MS? Using the Triple Quad and QToF for Difficult flavor and fragrance analyses.

In this presentation a general flavor and fragrance analysis with GC/MS will be discussed to highlight the benefits of moving the analysis to a higher level mass spectrometer analyzer.

The GC triple quadrupole can provide library searchable spectra as well as low level detection for targeted compounds e.g. off flavors. For a complete analysis of the same a GC QToF provides high resolving power and accurate mass to extract all of the components from the sample as well as high confidence in the identification.

Key Learning Objectives/What attendees will learn:

  • Faster data analysis with library searching using MassHunter’s Unknowns Analysis
  • Workflows for creating MRM transitions for low level analyses with the triple quad
  • SureMass feature-finding to extract more unique components with the QToF

Presenter: Matt Curtis, PhD (GC/MS Applications Scientist, Agilent Technologies, Inc.)

Matt joined Agilent in 2013 as a GC/MS applications scientist in the Santa Clara, CA Center of Excellence. His primary responsibility is focused on providing instrument demos for customer interested in each technology Agilent offers; the GC/MS single quadrupole, triple quadrupole and the quadrupole Time-of-Flight. The variety of different samples submitted to the demo lab provide a unique knowledge of optimizing parameters for different applications to provide the best quality data from the instrument.
