Purge & Trap technology is often used to achieve the legal detection limits of volatile and very volatile organic compounds in water samples. Especially in case of water intended for human consumption, the regulatory requirements are particularly stringent. When dealing with more complex matrices, headspace analysis offers a much cleaner approach compared to purging the sample. However, sensitivity could be limited without a suitable enrichment of the analytes before injection.

The technological developments in recent years on new headspace extraction/enrichment techniques, such as ITEX (In Tube Extraction), makes possible to achieve low detection limits for volatiles with a clean sampling approach, without purging. Different adsorbents can be used for ITEX depending on the analytical demand. Additionally, a suitable refocusing before transferring the sample into the chromatography column, provides narrow peaks, better signal-to-noise and enhanced sensitivity especially for very volatile organic compounds (VVOCs). This webinar gives an insight of the available technology along with various examples from a routine laboratory.

Who should attend:
  • Laboratory manager of environmental testing laboratories
  • Analysts who have to detect trace levels of VOCs and VVOCs in water
  • Analysts looking for a clean and sensitive sampling techniques for VOCs and VVOCs in water
