Plastic waste entering the environment is undesired, and many initiatives are working towards a plastics circular economy. Once disposed of, ideally, plastic waste should be either re-used or recycled in order to avoid incineration or disposal in landfills. Mechanical recycling and depolymerization processes manage to capture only a small percentage of plastics. However, the bulk of mixed plastics that we use defy both mechanical recycling and depolymerization. For these mixed plastics, pyrolysis is the industry’s only currently viable tool for recovering raw materials and making new polymers.

Pyrolysis process uses high temperatures in the absence of oxygen to break down plastics into a mixture of smaller molecules known as pyrolysis oil. The output from pyrolysis has a different composition than traditional fossil-based hydrocarbon streams, and therefore, must be evaluated to correctly process as feedstock.

In this webinar, we will talk about how GC-VUV can be used for an accurate PIONA-type quantification of pyrolysis oils from plastic waste.

Tune into this webinar to find out how GC-VUV can be used for an accurate PIONA-type quantification of pyrolysis oils from plastic waste.
