Staying ahead of pesticides residue analysis challenges using GC-MS/MS

Food manufacturers must test their raw materials and ensure that they are free from pesticides to protect consumers. Pesticides are highly regulated world-wide for use on crops however they are misused and cause the contamination of the environment and in turn crops used to produce raw material. Testing botanical matrices can be particularly challenging due to complex matrix interferences. Food manufacturing labs must have instrumentation that can achieve the regulatory limits consistently.

Jerry Mueller, QC Chemist-MS Specialist and application expert with NOW Foods will discuss the current regulatory requirements for pesticided analysis in food samples and demonstrate easy to deploy and scalable workflow strategies (or techiques or technology) for pesticides analysis using Thermo Scientific equipment. This discussion will include examples of pesticide analysis in various botanical matrices, review data, and provide solutions using the new Thermo Scientific GC-MS/MS system.

Presenter: Jerry Mueller (QC Chemist - MS Specialist, NOW Foods)

Jerry Mueller is a QC Chemist – MS Specialist at NOW Foods focusing primarily on Pesticide Residue Analysis. He has over 10 years of experience in large panel MS/MS method development and analysis. He joined NOW Foods in 2017 and has worked as a part of the Pesticides team to overcome the complex and unique challenges offered by residue analysis of botanical extracts. Prior to joining NOW Foods, Jerry was working in the Clinical Toxicology field. Jerry holds a degree in Chemistry from Elmhurst University of Illinois.
