With the increased uptake of hybrid and electric vehicles, non-exhaust emissions are now of growing environmental concern.

In this webinar, our guest speaker, Dr Nick Molden, (Emissions Analytics), will demonstrate the use of thermal desorption (TD) for versatile sampling of emissions from exhausts, vehicle interiors and tyres. When coupled with GC×GC–TOF MS this provides improved chemical fingerprinting of emissions to enhance our understanding of how vehicles may impact the environment and human health.

Key learning objectives
  • See how GC×GC–TOF MS can gain insight into volatile emissions from car trim materials, such as plastic, textiles and rubber.
  • Find out how characterising tyre composition can help us to understand the sources of microplastics being observed in air, water and soil samples.
  • Learn how to future-proof your lab in case of expansion of the target lists of regulated compounds.
Who should attend?
  • GC-MS analysts, lab supervisors and directors

Presenter: Dr. Nick Molden (Chief Executive Officer Emissions Analytics Ltd)

Nick founded Emissions Analytics in 2011 to understand real-world emissions and fuel economy and emissions from vehicles. Its EQUA Index database of thousands of independently conducted tests is an international performance benchmark. The wider mission is to understand the holistic environmental impact of vehicles on air, soil and water, from tyre wear rates to volatile organic compound emissions.

Presenter: Dr. Laura McGregor (Product Marketing Manager, SepSolve Analytical)

Laura’s background is in analytical forensic science, and her Ph.D. (at the University of Strathclyde, UK) focused on the chemical fingerprinting of environmental contamination using GC×GC-TOF MS. Following roles in application support and product marketing for Markes International’s TOF MS and software portfolios, she joined SepSolve in October 2017, where she continues to apply GC×GC–TOF MS to challenging applications.

Presenter: Rory Shadbolt (SelectScience)

Rory holds a Masters degree in Biochemistry from Swansea University, UK. Rory previously worked for PerkinElmer as a Senior Lab Technician. As a member of the Editorial team, he now plays an integral role in shaping the content on SelectScience.
