SelectScience: GC troubleshooting tips and tricks from inlet through to detection

Problems can arise from any component in your gas chromatography (GC) setup. In order to troubleshoot and solve these issues quickly and efficiently, it is important to follow systematic processes.

In this webinar, Dr. Ramkumar Dhandapani, global product manager of gas chromatography at Phenomenex, will walk you through a systematic approach to identify, resolve, and prevent GC-related problems. In addition, diagnostic approaches will be explored for solving issues in GC analysis. Troubleshooting with specific case studies including the analysis of volatiles, semivolatiles, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) will also be explored.

Key learning objectives

  • Understand the basic concepts of GC
  • Discover systematic ways to troubleshoot complex problems
  • How to choose the right GC column for your application
  • Strategic troubleshooting for persistent organic pollutants with case studies

Who should attend?

  • Analytical chemists that need help with GC troubleshooting
  • Academic researchers that require strategic troubleshooting tips
  • GC lab managers that want to reduce lab downtime

Presenter: Dr. Ramkumar Dhandapani (Global Product Manager - Gas Chromatography, Phenomenex)

Dr. Ramkumar Dhandapani has been in the chromatography industry for over 18 years with hands-on and troubleshooting experience. He has earnt a master’s and Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry from Seton Hall University, with specializations in microextractions, multidimentional gas chromatography, and tandem mass spectroscopy techniques. He has developed and validated several regulatory compliant methods in the pharmaceutical, food, fuels and environmental industries as well as incorporated method improvement and troubleshooting across a range of separation techniques. Dr. Dhandapani joined Phenomenex in August of 2014 and he serves as the global product manager of gas chromatography. In addition to managing the GC product line, Dr. Dhandapani presents on innovations in GC at various chromatography conferences.

Presenter: Blake Forman (Editorial Team, SelectScience)

Blake studied chemistry at the University of Surrey, UK, and further went on to study a master’s in chemistry at the University of Southampton, UK. Blake has previously worked in the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) lab at LGC and as a technical sales specialist for Waters. As a member of the Editorial team, he now plays an integral role in shaping the content on SelectScience.
