Director of Central European Institute of Technology of Masaryk University (CEITEC MU)

The Rector of Masaryk University announces an open competition for the position of Director of Central European Institute of Technology of Masaryk University (CEITEC MU).

We are a University with ten faculties, more than 200 departments, institutes and clinics working in a wide range of natural sciences and humanities academic disciplines and research areas. We are a major educational and research institution on a European scale and the second largest employer in the South Moravian Region. We are looking for a Director for CEITEC MU. CEITEC MU is a higher education institute of Masaryk University, an interdisciplinary scientific workplace with university-wide scope, focused on research programs in the field of biotechnology and biomedical disciplines. Researchers from CEITEC MU push the boundaries of knowledge in the fields of structural biology, molecular medicine, plant genomics and proteomics, and neuroscience. The modern laboratories of CEITEC MU provide access to the latest technologies and support scientists not only from Masaryk University but also from many institutions and companies in the Czech Republic and more than 35 countries around the world.

CEITEC MU is a proud holder of the award HR Excellence in Research Award from the European Commission and is the first research institution in the Czech Republic to win one of the top places in the Company of the Year: Equal Opportunities 2020 competition.

Your main activities in the role of Director of CEITEC MU will be:

• to develop CEITEC MU as a leading research centre in the field of biological and medical sciences

• to implement the strategy and scientific direction of the Institute in accordance with the objectives and key indicators of the Strategic Plan of Masaryk University

• ensure the effectiveness of research groups and their institutional funding

• promote the quality and innovation of research programmes, including the promotion of interdisciplinary cooperation

• actively represent CEITEC MU at national and international level and build partnerships with academic, industrial and governmental institutions

• impartially promote all areas of interest of CEITEC MU and support all research topics

• Defend and actively implement policies against conflicts of interest and equal treatment

What is our idea of a suitable candidate?

• orientation in the issues of management and administration of universities and funding of research and higher education

• knowledge of European and national research and development policies

• openness to a comprehensive approach to the direction of CEITEC MU

• Ability to establish and maintain strategic relationships and work collaboratively and consensually

• experience in an academic or scientific environment

• work experience in an international research environment

• Demonstrably successful managerial experience of at least 5 years leading a large work team in a scientific, research or industrial environment

• Strong leadership, strategic and conceptual thinking, independence in decision making, finding new ways and solutions within your position and the Institute as a whole

• minimum qualifications: a completed university degree at Master's level

• knowledge of Czech and English at a level that enables them to perform their work function effectively in both languages equally, taking into account the bilingual nature of CEITEC MU

• The multi-round open competition for the position will include a personal interview with the committee members, a meeting with representatives of CEITEC MU management, development and presentation of strategic theses and psychodiagnostics.
