We are the North American division of world-renown Metrohm AG (Herisau, Switzerland), an industry leader in laboratory instruments and accessories for analytical testing/research. We are looking for an experienced Field Service Specialist to join our team in the San Jose, CA area. The ideal candidate will work in a territory that includes but not limited to the San Francisco Bay area and western Nevada. Travel outside of the assign territory may be required to assist within the Southwest region.

PRODUCT SPECIALIST (SPECTROSCOPY)

Job Description:

The SPS is part of the Spectroscopy Product team and provides technical mentorship to the sales and service teams for better positioning and delivery of our technical solutions in the market. You will work cross-functionally with other members of the marketing department, sales team, and service teams to support product marketing initiatives from product launch through obsolescence.

As an SPS, you will gain a deep understanding of the laboratory and handheld products. You will serve as an in-house expert, answering questions from sales, service, and customers alike. You will leverage your expertise in spectroscopy and data analytics to recommend technical solutions and create deployable applications at customer sites. Critical to your success is creating and maintaining relationships with customers and key opinion leaders to help guide product strategy & tactics, delivering sales opportunities and identifying market trends.

Beyond marketing and customer experience, the SPS is a technical expert on our products and understands both their software and hardware. The SPS performs demonstrations of our instruments, leads training sessions, and presents at conferences.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated technical leadership in spectroscopy, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to establish and build rapport with others both inside and outside of Metrohm. The candidate will be motivated with a passion to develop in a product management role, able to work in ambiguous situations with limited supervision, and be a fast & agile learner.

Your key job functions as Product Specialist are:

  • Supporting the Spectroscopy Product Manager in execution of product line strategy.

  • Writing sales and marketing collateral, including application notes, white papers, and peer-reviewed technical content.

  • Attending and presenting products at trade shows and exhibitions.

  • Conducting virtual labs for live customer demonstrations of products.

  • Developing and presenting webinars and on-demand video content of our products.

  • Creating and delivering both customer facing and internal stakeholder training materials on Metrohm handheld and laboratory NIR and Raman spectrometers.

  • Providing feedback to product development about the needs of our customers.

Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. in a physical or biological science, engineering, or related field.

  • M.S. in a physical or biological science, engineering, or related field AND 2+ years’ experience in industry or teaching.

  • B.S. in a physical or biological science, engineering, or related field AND 5+ years’ experience in industry or teaching.

  • Raman technical expertise preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise with multivariate data classification and regressions tools such as PCA, SIMCA, PLS, PCR, MLR.

  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Works well with others on shared projects such as marketers, analysts, and engineers.

  • Independently motivated to meet deadlines and manage project timelines.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% to trade shows, customer sites, and regional offices for up to two weeks contiguously.
