Laboratory Technician
Overview:
ALS Group is a diversified international analytical laboratory and testing services group which first established its operations in Queensland, Australia in 1975. The company processes more than 10 million samples per annum and is one of the largest analytical laboratory groups in the world. Its staff of over 11,000 operates out of over 300 locations in 50-plus countries throughout Australia, North America, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
The ALS Environmental Division provides high quality and dependable analytical testing data to assist consulting and engineering firms, industry, and government agencies around the world in making informed decisions for environmental projects.
Seasonal/Summer Laboratory Tech – Seasonal/Summer Part Time and Full Time available; shifts may vary
- Location: ALS Environmental Division– Middletown Pa
- Reports to: Department Supervisor/Team Lead (Departments: Sample Receiving, Inorganics, Organics)
General Accountability:
The primary purpose of this position is to flex between departments to help with the priorities for that day.
Responsibilities:
Specific Responsibilities:
- Discarding of expired samples
- Organize the daily cleaning and preparation of various laboratory glassware.
- Aliquoting samples for the laboratory
- Checking samples for pH and chlorine
- Will be responsible for transporting samples to appropriate storage locations
- Scanning paperwork and working on the computer
- Ensure compliance with assigned SOP’s, QA manual and Safety policies.
- Professional appearance and conduct to both ALS staff and clients.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Detail oriented – able to accurately interpret and transcribe information
- Good typing / data entry skills.
- Have a demonstrated ability to communicate well in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multi-task and work as part of a team.
- Proven ability to learn new concepts quickly.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
Physical Demands:
- The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working.
- Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis (may request and use a dolly for situations requiring heavy loads).
- Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware.
- Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
