Laboratory Assistant
About the Position
On-site | Casual
As a Lab Assistant, your primary role will be to independently prepare, analyze and dispose of client samples.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Track and weigh client samples for fusion and press pellet analysis;
- Load and unload electrical furnaces;
- Wash, dry and organize ceramic crucible trays;
- Data processing and record-keeping;
- Perform duties in accordance with SOP and quality control procedures;
- Transfer samples between digestion and analytical sections;
- Discard samples after analysis completed according to standard operating procedures;
- Grind, palatalize, and fuse client samples;
- Operate fusion machine; grinding mill, and press pellet machines;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with weighing samples required;
- Excellent hand eye coordination;
- Good organizational skills;
- Detail oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality;
- Ability to work independently or as a part of the team;
- Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
- Intermediate English communication skills both written and verbal;
- Intermediate computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent required;
- Diploma or Degree in Science preferred;
- Minimum of 3 months laboratory experience in analytical chemistry or related field required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs;
- Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per day;
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.

- An estimated hourly pay of $22.23 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
