Operations Technician I - Fused Silica

Restek is looking for an Operations Technician I to join our Fused Silica team, helping manufacture the high-quality fused silica columns that serve our gas chromatography customers around the world. The schedule for this position is Sunday through Wednesday, 5:00 am – 3:30 pm. Weekend crews are also eligible for additional Weekend Flex time to use throughout the year when scheduled holidays fall outside their normal workdays. 

What You’ll Do

  • Manufacture and process fused silica columns, including:
    • Handling and weighing powders (salts) and polymers
    • Winding, deactivating, filling, and bonding columns
    • Operating bonding ovens, deactivation stations, and static baths
    • Performing monthly/quarterly equipment maintenance
    • Cleaning and reassembling equipment (filling heads, static baths, oven manifolds)
  • Plan work around production due dates and equipment usage
  • Track and maintain raw materials for production
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) carefully
  • Record data in production databases, including quality control records
  • Conduct basic equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Follow all safety procedures, including chemical handling protocols
  • Attend and participate in team meetings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For 

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2 years of specialized training in a science-related field or relevant hands-on manufacturing experience preferred
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good problem-solving skills using basic math and scientific principles
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and basic ERP systems
  • Able to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Effective communicators willing to share knowledge and train others
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards
Physical Requirements 
  • Standing 8–10 hours per shift with occasional breaks
  • Stooping/bending 1–2 hours daily
  • Reaching, pulling, pinching, grasping, typing, and other repetitive motion
  • Handling parts and equipment that require tactile feedback (temperature, shape, size)
  • Lifting up to 20lbs occasionally, up to 10lbs frequently
  • Potential exposure to fumes, odors, dust, or gases (PPE provided)

This position will require the successful completion of a standard background check in accordance with Restek policy. Employment with Restek will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
