Reference Standards Business Unit Leader

The Reference Standards Business Unit Leader (“BU Leader”) will lead Restek’s global Reference Standards Business Unit.  The BU Leader is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the commercial strategy, product development, production and quality control of high-quality reference materials used by customers around the world.  As the driving force behind the business unit’s future success, the BU leader will lead a multidisciplinary team, collaborate with customers, vendors, and other key stakeholders, and ensure the execution of strategies and programs that drive revenue growth and profitability.

Job Duties

  1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a strategic plan for the Reference Standards Business Unit, aligning with Restek’s overall goals and objectives.  Identify new markets, revenue growth and profit improvement opportunities and create strategies to capitalize on them.
  2. Team Leadership:  Lead, mentor, and motivate a cross-functional team including scientists, product managers and operations staff.
  3. Market Analysis: Stay well-informed of industry trends, customer needs, and competitive products through strong relationships with key customers, industry partners, and regulatory agencies.  Conduct research to identify new opportunities and assess customer feedback.
  4. Product Portfolio Management:  Develop and implement a strategic product plan, conducting regular analyses of the existing portfolio’s performance and ensuring alignment with market trends and customer needs.
  5. Innovation and Market Positioning:  Lead new product introductions, oversee product lifecycle management, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance market positioning, ensuring the business unit maintains a competitive edge through a dynamic and customer-centric product portfolio.
  6. Financial Management:  Manage the budget for the Business Unit, monitor financial performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize growth and profitability.
  7. Customer Focus:  Maintain a strong customer-centric focus, ensuring that the business unit’s products, delivery, and support exceed customer needs and expectations.  
  8. Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the business unit.  Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance productivity.  
  9. Quality Control and Compliance:  Ensure that products comply with relevant quality standards, industry regulations, and legal requirements, including import/export requirements.  Implement manufacturing and quality control processes to maintain consistency and reliability.
  10. Sales and Marketing Support:  Collaborate with Restek’s sales and marketing teams to develop and execute sales strategies, marketing campaigns, and promotional activities to drive revenue growth. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, science, engineering or a related field; MBA or Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience in leadership role within the reference standards, analytical chemistry, or related field.
  • A proven track record in business unit management, including strategic planning, commercial and financial management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
