Research & Development Project Manager – Raman Spectroscopy Instrumentation
The Raman Spectroscopy Centre of Excellence of Agilent is based on the Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire. This business unit leads the development of revolutionary, world-beating solutions such as the Resolve Handheld Chemical Analyser and Vaya Raw Material ID solution. As an R&D Project Manager in our business, you will lead and coordinate technical project teams with specialists in hardware, software, electrical engineering, optical engineering, quality assurance, application science and marketing. You will coordinate team activities such as locking down project definition and review designs with technical leads. You will be responsible for the overall project execution of the development of new products or enhancement of existing products, including planning, budgeting and issue resolution.
Your main responsibilities will be
- Provide project leadership and support to New Product Development and Product Revision programs.
- Build out development project plans according to the Agilent Product Lifecycle. This will include investigation, prototyping, implementation and working with the manufacturing arm of Agilent.
- Synthesize timelines and budgets with inputs from the team, decide on the number of prototypes and their expected use between groups during the development project.
- Build out and maintain detailed risk registers with mitigation approaches.
- Run regular Cross Functional Team meetings, and technical reviews, following up with team members and coordinating/driving progress.
- Maintain project documentation with appropriate approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate should
- Be able to grasp new detailed technical concepts and work through issues with specialists.
- Be an effective communicator to different levels and across geographies in the organization.
- Have demonstrated experience as an individual contributor in preferably HW, or embedded SW development for high technology/complexity products.
- Be able to solve problems themselves, or by to getting the right people 'in the room'.
- Be able to link out to the wider Agilent organisation: Marketing, Sales, Field support, learning products, Production, Quality, Regulatory.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent.
- Typically, at least 8+ years relevant experience for entry to this level.
- Requires in-depth knowledge and experience in job as a R&D or NPI project manager, and/or individual technical contributor.
- Experience of Project Lifecycle Management an advantage
- Hardware or embedded software development experience.
- The role is in scientific instrument design and manufacture, specifically Raman spectroscopy. Knowledge of this technique is not essential, but background of working in, or leading a highly technical multi-disciplinary team is key.
- People management experience not required, but desirable.
