Senior Analytical Scientist
Your Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Senior Scientist to join the Analytical Technology team in Tamaqua, PA. This is a plant and laboratory based, cross-functional role requiring interaction with teams from Operations, Quality, Engineering, R&D and business functions. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for the development, validation and transfer of best-in-class analytical methods and systems used to support our Specialty Gas portfolio. Additionally, you will be driving efforts focused on identification and implementation of analytical technology improvements for existing products as well as developing analytical methods to support new projects moving through our R&D pipeline. You will support the design, fabrication, implementation, and commissioning of new automated analytical systems in our plants while providing advanced troubleshooting support on existing systems locally. While performing your work, you will be expected to utilize best safety practices and cultivate a culture of safety within the laboratory.
This position may require occasional travel of up to 10%.
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in chemistry or other closely related scientific discipline
- 5+ years of industrial analytical experience with either GC and/or ICP-MS
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in chemistry (or related field) with 8+ years’ experience with either GC and/or ICP-MS
- Experience with design and setup of in-line analytical systems and methods (especially GC instruments designed for the analysis of gas phase products)
- Experience with handling and analyzing reactive, corrosive and/or toxic gases
- Demonstrated ability to utilize GC, FTIR, GC-MS, GC-TOF, CRDS and/or ICP-MS to solve challenging problems
- Experience developing and validating analytical methods
- A strong fundamental understanding of analytical chemistry concepts and instrumentation including GC, FTIR, CRDS and ICP-MS
- Knowledge of statistical design of experiments, gauge R&R studies and statistical software packages such as JMP or Minitab
- Creative self-starter with the initiative to tackle problems
- Effective presenter and technical writer
- Experience preparing technical, customer-facing documents
- Strong verbal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a diverse team
