OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN I - FUSED SILICA
Restek is currently seeking an Operations Technician I to join our Fused Silica department. This position is responsible for the manufacturing of our fused silica columns for our gas chromatography customers. The primary duties of this role include but are not limited to:
- Handling and weighing powders (salts) and polymers
- Winding, deactivating, filling, and bonding of columns
- Planning for due dates, equipment usage, ect.
- Bonding ovens
- Deactivation stations
- Static Baths for filling
- Monthly/Quarterly equipment maintenance
- taking apart filling heads, static baths, oven manifolds; Cleaning with solvents; reassembly
This role will have a regular schedule of Sunday through Wednesday 6:00 am to 4:30pm after a training period.
The physical requirements include stooping/bending down 1-2 hrs. per day, standing 1-2 hrs. per day, reaching, pulling, fingering, picking, pinching, grasping, typing repetitive motion, perceiving by touching temperature, shape, or size, occasionally exerting up to 20 lbs. of pressure/frequently up to 10 lbs.

Job Duties:

Process and manufacture products in assigned area to maintain appropriate inventory levels and service back orders in a timely manner as determined by operation requirements. May provide technical training and “hands on” support to others in assigned area when a sufficient level of expertise is attained.

Track and maintain raw materials as necessary to facilitate their respective process.

Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) within their assigned area.

Maintain records and databases as required in their respective process, including Statistical Product Control (SPC) or other quality records. Has a basic understanding of the data in order to recognize problems.

Maintain equipment within assigned area, including making basic repairs or performing equipment installation as directed.

Review product requirements and determine basic performance to quality standards.

Understand and follow safe handling procedures for all chemicals and equipment and consult the safety officer, reference books, or MSDS when safety is in question. Adhere to Restek’s safety codes and regulations.

Attend and participate in departmental /team meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical requirements:
Standing 8-10 hrs. per shift schedule with occasional breaks, reaching, pulling, fingering, pinching, grasping, typing, repetitive motion, perceiving by touching temperature, shape or size, occasionally exerting up to 20 lbs. of pressure/frequently up to 10 lbs. Will be exposed to fumes, odors, dust or gases.
Qualifications
Education&Skills:

Minimum of high school diploma/GED

Prefer 2 years specialized training in a science-related technology or relevant experience

Ability to perform basic level job responsibilities, including problem solving using basic math and scientific rules

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic ERP system.
