Security and Forensic Applications of Mass Spectrometry
We will bring together leading researchers from around the world to discuss the latest developments in the application of mass spectrometry to both national security and forensic science. The meeting will include a K-9 detection demonstration, real world case studies, and research presentations in five primary focus areas:

Registration
The ASMS Asilomar Conference Registration will Open in June 2025.

Conference Registration Fees - Advance Deadline is September 12
- $400, ASMS Members (Regular and Emeritus), $450 after Sept.12
- $600, Non-Members, $650 after Sept.12
- $175, Students*, $225 after Sept.12
* Must be a full-time student in a degree program.
Offsite Fee $250. If you do not reserve a hotel room at Asilomar, you will need to pay an Offsite Fee of $250. This fee includes LUNCH tickets for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Lodging is not included with conference registration.
Dinner Tickets for Offsite Lodgers. If you wish to purchase dinner tickets (in addition to lunch tickets included with offsite fee), you may do so via conference registration (online or printable registration form). The cost per dinner ticket is $45.
Lodging (hotel room) at Asilomar is not included with conference registration. To reserve a hotel room at Asilomar, please go to the Lodging at Asilomar page. Lodging at Asilomar includes 3 meals per day.
Registration Cancellation Policy
Written notification of registration cancellations received on or before September 12 will be refunded less a $50 cancellation fee.
Information for Conference Registrants
All conference attendees are invited to pick-up their name badge and program booklet on Friday, October 10, 4:00 - 6:00 pm in the Chapel. Chapel is also the location of all sessions, posters and evening mixers. If you will arrive late on Friday evening, your registration materials will be available for pick-up anytime during the conference sessions in Chapel.
If you have reserved a guest room at Asilomar, please check-in at the front desk located in the Phoebe Hearst Social Hall (aka Administrative Building). Check-in for guest rooms is 4:00 pm.

Applying for a Travel Stipend for Students or Post-docs?
Online Application will Open in June 2025
Travel stipends of up to $750 each + free registration are available to graduate students and post-docs within two years of first appointment. Stipend recipients will also receive complimentary registration.

Eligibility & Requirements
- Applicants must be a full-time graduate student or post-doc within two years of first appointment.
- Applicant must not have received Sanibel, Fall Workshop, Asilomar Conference nor Annual Conference Graduate Student travel award within the calendar year of the conference.
- Limit of one applicant per group (student or post-doc).
- ASMS membership, preference will be given to applicants that are current ASMS members.
- Applicants must submit an abstract for conference presentation. The abstract must be submitted separately from the travel stipend application. A copy of the submission should be included with application for stipend.
- Letter of recommendation from advisor. Applicant may upload in the online application or advisor may email directly to [email protected]. Letter must be received by the application deadline.

Abstract Submission
A limited number of posters and short talks will be selected from submitted abstracts for presentation at the meeting. If you have a new development or research relevant to the meeting topic that you wish to present, please submit an abstract by the deadline. Details on presentation options for submitted abstracts are below. Please note: invited speakers do not submit abstracts.
The Asilomar Conference Committee and the conference organizers reserve the right to reject any poster which is judged to be inappropriate or which promotes a commercial or personal interest perspective.
Abstract Submission for Posters & Short Talks will Open in June 2025
Deadline is August 28, 2025
Once the August 28 submission deadline has passed we will review the abstracts. The week of September 8, we will be sending out acceptance/rejection letters via email. If your abstract is accepted, you will have three days after receipt to accept or withdraw your abstract.
Session Options for Abstract Submissions
- Poster-Only. This option is available to any interested person (student through PI, all sectors).
- Poster + Poster Highlight Talk. Select this option if you wish to present a poster and be considered for a highlight talk (60 to 90 seconds, to be determined) about your poster. Strongly encouraged for students and postdocs, but PIs are welcome!
- Short Talk. There are a very limited number of these slots available. Abstracts not selected for short talk will be contacted to confirm poster-only presentation or poster + poster highlight talk. Abstracts which are selected for a short talk will give oral presentation only (no poster). Length of short talks is to be determined, but will likely be 10 or 15 minute talks.
Please note that abstracts are not required for invited talks AND abstracts are not published (for invited talks, short talks, or posters). Submitted abstracts are used only for evaluation and selection of relevant posters and hot topic talks. The spirit of the ASMS Asilomar Conference is to encourage discussion about the latest (unpublished) research in a topic area.
Word Limits and Instructions for Submission
Before entering your abstract, assemble the following:
- Step 1: Abstract
- Title – Limit 20 words
- Introduction – Limit 120 words
- Methods – Limit 120 words
- Preliminary data – Limit 300 words
- Novel aspect – Limit 20 words
- Conflict of Interest - List your conflicts of interest or indicate there are no conflicts.
- Step 2: Authors - Enter ALL of the co-author names, affiliations (institute/company) and their email address. The submitter's name automatically appears as an author. It is possible to delete once additional authors are added. Be sure to designate only ONE of the authors as the Presenter (green checkmark). IMPORTANT: Help recognize your co-authors correctly by carefully entering their name as it commonly appears on their publications.
- Step 3: Session selection - If you wish to be considered for an Oral you will be prompted for a 1st and 2nd choice. There is no oral-only option, you must be willing to present a poster if you opt for oral consideration. For poster-only, simply skip the oral session preferences.
- Step 4: Questions - these relate to the designated PRESENTER of this abstract. The information is collected to help ASMS arrange oral sessions that remain diverse, balanced, and appropriately reflect the composition of the membership. Presenters will not be penalized or overlooked for any given response, or for the selection of the “Do Not Wish to Provide” option. The answers to all questions will be visible to reviewers only in the context described above.
The answers to these questions will NOT be included in the abstract submission receipt. To change an answer or revisit the answers selected, the person submitting this abstract may sign-in and select 'View my drafts and submissions'.
- Step 5: Review and Submit - Your abstract will not be submitted until you click "Submit Abstract" at the end. You and your co-authors will receive an email receipt to confirm your submission. Please note that the questions and answers (step 4) will NOT be included in the submission email receipt. Abstract entry sessions will time out after 10 minutes of inactivity. If you leave your computer and come back to it after the auto-timeout you will need to log back in.

Lodging at Asilomar
Attendees and speakers are encouraged to reserve a room at Asilomar. Guest room lodging at Asilomar is not included in the conference registration fee and must be booked separately using the special reservation link posted below.
Guest Rooms in the ASMS block at Asilomar include 3 meals per day and are inclusive of ALL taxes. To reserve for the full conference, October 10 (check-in) through October 14 (check-out) it will be a four-night stay (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday), departure on Tuesday.

Guest Room Types and 2025 Rates
The guest room rates at Asilomar are ALL-INCLUSIVE --they include all nightly taxes and three meals per day. Before making your reservation, please also read details on Asilomar guest room reservation cancellation above and on your confirmation from Asilomar once you make your reservation (you will receive an email confirmation from Asilomar once you reserve).
- Single Occupancy (one person, one room), $316.96 per day includes three meals per day and ALL taxes & fees. Or the breakdown is:
- $189.17 nightly room rate
- $22.22 nightly occupancy tax
- $69.71 per day for three meals
- $23.86 sales tax and service fee on meals
- $12 daily facility fee
- Roommate Request - Double Occupancy** (shared room with two beds), $210.27 per day includes three meals per day and ALL taxes & fees. Or the breakdown is:
- $94.59 nightly room rate per person
- $11.11 nightly occupancy tax
- $69.71 per day for three meals
- $22.86 sales tax and service fee on meals
- $12 daily facility fee
**Roommates. If you are seeking a roommate to share a double occupancy room. You must locate your own roommate. If you would like assistance in finding a roommate, please try our Find A Roommate Google sheet to help connect attendees seeking a roommate match.
Once you have a roommate match, you will each reserve using the Asilomar Online Housing Link at top of this page. Select Double Occupancy-Shared Room. You will indicate your roommate's name in the 'Notes' section of the online reservation. You both must both make your reservation within one day of each other. You must request each other as roommates in order to be assigned to the same room. If you request someone to be your roommate and they do not request you, your reservation will be put on hold. All requested roommates must be registered for the same lodging nights and must register within five business days of each other. To indicate your known roommate, use the 'Additional Information' field during registration.
Participant Plus Guest - Double Occupancy (shared room with one king bed), $422.96 per day includes three meals per day and all taxes. Price breakdown will be posted soon.
Offsite Participants (if you are not lodging at Asilomar)
All conference attendees who opt to stay offsite and not reserve a guest room at Asilomar must pay a mandatory $250 offsite fee via conference registration. The fee covers a usage fee assessed by the facility as well as lunch ticketsfor Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. If you have already registered for the conference and need to pay your offsite fee, simply login to online registration and add this fee.
Participant Guests
Guests are welcome to accompany conference attendees.If you are lodging onsite at Asilomar, you may request and pay for lodging for your guest as well using the Participant Plus Guest - Double Occupancy option in Asilomar Online Housing. Guests staying at Asilomar will receive three meals per day included with their Asilomar lodging reservation.

- Parking is free on the campus as long as you are parked in a legal space (avoid the red curbs, this means 'no parking'.)

Air Travel to Asilomar in Pacific Grove (Monterey), CA
- Try to book flight to Monterey Regional Airport (MRY)
Due to extreme traffic from the Bay Area (SFO and SJC airports) on Friday afternoons, we suggest checking on flight availabilty into the Monterey Regional Airport located 9.3 miles from Asilomar. Take a taxi or use a rideshare app like Uber and Lyft provide convenient transportation from this airport to Asilomar Conference Center.
- San Francisco (SFO) and San Jose (SJC) Airports are also an option
Asilomar is approximately 120 miles from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and 65 miles from San Jose International Airport (SJC). Note the driving traffic from either airport to Asilomar Conference Center can be extreme on Friday afternoons.
From these airports to Asilomar you may choose to rent a car or take the Groome Shuttle . From SFO to Asilomar the fee is $97 one-way and from SJC the fee is $81 one-way. Save $5 per trip if you book online at www.https://groometransportation.com/monterey/. Their website has detailed pages on schedules (to airport and from airport). We recommend you book your shuttle at least 72 hours before travel.
