Abstract: Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) presents a promising pathway to reduce aviation-related emissions, yet their complex chemical composition requires advanced analytical tools to ensure quality, performance, and regulatory compliance. This work explores the capabilities of comprehensive two‑dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) for the detailed characterization of SAF, including HEFA and other drop-in fuel candidates. GC×GC provides enhanced separation power, improved resolution of isoparaffins, naphthenes, and aromatic species, and a more complete fingerprint of the fuel matrix compared to conventional one-dimensional GC. Through representative case studies, we demonstrate how GC×GC helps identify subtle compositional differences, monitor production consistency, and support the validation of new SAF formulations. Overall, this technology offers a robust and insightful platform for understanding the chemistry behind cleaner aviation fuels and for accelerating their safe and reliable deployment.
