<p>Bioactive plant metabolites are an essential source of chemical scaffolds for the development of new medicines. <a href="https://pluskal.group.uochb.cz/en"><strong>Our group</strong></a> is interested in establishing new cutting-edge methods to harness the biosynthetic potential of plant specialized metabolism for the benefit of human health. One of the most exciting problems in the field is prediction of enzyme activity from its amino acid sequence using computational approaches. <strong>In this project, we will assemble a training dataset and design deep learning models for predicting the enzyme substrates, products, and reaction mechanisms directly from the amino acid sequences of terpene synthases</strong>. Terpene synthase enzymes are collectively responsible for generating the scaffolds for the largest and the most diverse family of plant specialized metabolites with numerous medical and industrial applications (e.g., paclitaxel or artemisinin).</p>
<p><strong>This PhD project is funded by the European MSCA Doctoral Network ‘ModBioTerp’</strong>. The main supervisor is <a href="https://www.uochb.cz/en/directory/979/tomas-pluskal"><strong>Dr. Tomas Pluskal</strong></a> (IOCB Prague) and co-supervisors are Dr. Christoph Krettler (Enveda Biosciences, USA) and Prof. Aalt-Jan van Dijk (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands). The monthly stipend includes 2,690 EUR living allowance, 600 EUR mobility allowance, and 660 EUR family allowance (if applicable).</p>
<p>The recruited PhD student must conform to the MSCA Mobility Rule: cannot have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the Czech Republic for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before their recruitment date. Students coming from Czech universities are not eligible for this position.</p>

<p><a href="https://pluskal.group.uochb.cz/en"><strong>Tomáš Pluskal Group</strong></a> at IOCB Prague combines cutting-edge experimental (e.g., LC-MS, metabolomics, RNA-seq) and computational (e.g., bioinformatics, molecular networking, machine learning) approaches to develop rapid, generally applicable workflows for the discovery and utilization of bioactive molecules derived from plants. Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Materials for Nano and Microrobots

<p><strong>We are the Czech Republic’s flagship basic research institute based at Masaryk University. CZ.02.01.01/00/23_025/0008726in Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (Czech Republic - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, co-funded by the European Union), which is focused on the <strong>language of the individual</strong>, which is an irreplaceable means of communication with the environment for every person. It explores how language is acquired in childhood, how it functions in adulthood, and what challenges individuals face as they age. The project aims to conduct interdisciplinary research based on a combination of linguistics, psychology, and neuroscience, which, by producing cutting-edge results, will enable an adequate and effective response to the global language-related challenges of contemporary society.</p><p>The candidate is expected to get involved in carrying out partial research and development work as directed by the head of research project No. 3 Language in old age: language loss and how to slow it down.</p><p>Work in a research team, research activities, such as data management and analysis, processing of audio recordings and writing recordings. We are the most productive scientific unit of Masaryk University, generating around 40 % of MU research results.</p><p><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://lcms.labrulez.com/companies/19"><strong>RECETOX</strong>&nbsp;</a> focuses on interdisciplinary research and education in the area of Environment &amp; Health, studying toxic compounds and their behaviour, transport &amp; bioaccumulation to evaluate environmental effects, assess the exposure and health risks to humans, and develop technologies and biotechnologies to break them down.&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>RESEARCH SOFTWARE ENGINEER</strong></h3><p>We seek a <strong>motivated research software engineer (RSE)</strong> with solid technological and scientific background who combines <strong>expertise in software</strong> <strong>development</strong> and <strong>methodology</strong> with deep knowledge of one or more research fields. The overarching goal is to develop software packages and Galaxy tools to <strong>process mass spectrometry data </strong>for the i<strong>dentification</strong> and <strong>quantification of small molecules</strong> (e.g <strong>pesticides</strong> and other <strong>environmental pollutants)</strong> in biospecimen to understand the interactions of the environment and health as part of the newly established <strong>Environmental Exposure Assessment Research Infrastructure (EIRENE).</strong></p><p>The EIRENE RI mission is to<strong> establish a sustainable research</strong> infrastructure enabling the advancement of exposome research in Europe by bringing together complementary capacities available in the member states, harmonizing them and upgrading to address current scientific and societal challenges in the areas of chemical exposures and population health.</p><p>We emphasize on <strong>sustainable</strong>, <strong>long-term</strong> and <strong>open developments</strong> and rely on professional standards to obtain reproducible results. As part of our international and multidisciplinary team in the Spectrometric Data Processing and Analysis <strong>Research Infrastructure (RI)</strong>, you will implement <strong>robust and well tested software</strong> (mostly <strong>R &amp; Python</strong>) and <strong>contribute to open-source projects </strong>with respective methodologies (pull requests, code reviews, etc.). As an RSE, you will also focus on best practices, including documentation, licensing, archiving, version control and testing of research software, as well as (supporting) the development and maintenance of existing software and workflows.</p><p>The position offers <strong>time flexibility</strong>, a <strong>high</strong> <strong>level of interdisciplinarity</strong> within fields of <strong>applied informatics</strong>, <strong>bioinformatics</strong> and <strong>analytical chemistry </strong>with a vast potential for the development of your expertise.
