In the first part of the KnowItAll Software series, we will look at 5 primary functions: ProcessIt, SearchIt, MineIt, MS Expert and ChemWindow.

The major emphasis was employing the NIST hybrid search for unknown identifications. However, in some cases “spectra-less” databases were shown to be very complementary.

A demo of creating a NIST user library is presented. In addition, an inexpensive but powerful method for combining, updating, distributing, and archiving it over a corporate network is discussed.

The NIST hybrid search of MS libraries is a greatly improved search algorithm. It generates a similarity score for both fragments and neutral losses. Thus extending the scope of commercial and user libraries.

A demo of AMDIS for processing EI GC-MS files is presented. In addition to the NIST Search software the components can be identified within AMDIS using either commercial or user libraries.
